Procedure of Spices Board Registration

Step 1. Online Application

The initial step in obtaining a Spices Board Certificate involves completing an online application on the government portal. Applicants need to register online, providing essential details such as their Import Export Code (IEC), mobile number, and email ID. Upon verification of the provided mobile number and email ID, applicants will proceed to fill out the online application form.

Step 2. Documents Uploading

Step 2 involves uploading the required documents onto the online portal after completing Part-1 of the form and obtaining a unique application number. Once the applicant logs in using this application number, they are prompted to upload all necessary documents, including a photograph, in the prescribed formats. It is imperative to ensure accuracy, particularly with the Import Export Code (IEC) details, as the Spices Board issues the Certificate of Registration for Exporters of Spices (CRES) based on this information.

Step 3. Payment via NEFT

Once all the details have been filled and the required documents uploaded, the next step involves making the payment. It’s essential to note that any edits to the application form can only be made before payment is processed. The government fee for new manufacturer registration is ₹715,000 + 18% GST, while for merchants, it’s ₹10,000 + 18% GST.

Step 4. Verification by Spices Board

Upon successful payment, the application is forwarded to the relevant Regional Office of the Board for thorough verification. Should any discrepancies be detected in the application, it will be returned for rectification and resubmission. However, if all documents are found to be in order, the application undergoes processing at the Head Office. Following processing, it is then routed back to the respective Regional Office for further proceedings.

Step 5. Issuance of Spice Board Certificate (CRES)

Once the registration process is completed at the Head Office (HO), the Certificate of Registration as an Exporter of Spices (CRES) will be issued. Subsequently, the applicant will receive a login ID and password to download the CRES certificate. It’s noteworthy that applicants can conveniently track the status of their application online using the unique application number assigned to them.

Spice Board Certificate (CRES)

CRES stands for Certificate of Registration as an Exporter of Spices and it is issued by the Spices Board of India. The certificate authenticates that an exporter of scheduled spices is registered with a regulatory agency authorised by the Government of India.

Spice Board Certificate Validity

Certificate of Spices Board is issued for a block period of three years. The certificate should be renewed at the end of every block year. For example, if you obtained the certificate for 2017 to 2020, then you are required to renew your registration certificate at the end of 2020. Current block year is 2021-2024.

Reasons for Rejection of Spice Board Registration

The Board may cancel any certificate on any one or more of the following grounds, namely:-

  1. That the holder of the certificate has violated any of the terms and conditions of the certificate;
  2. That in the opinion of the Central Government it is necessary for the interests of the general public to cancel the certificate.
  • where the Board, for reasons to be recorded in writing is satisfied that pending consideration of the question of canceling the certificate on any grounds mentioned in subsection (1), it is necessary so to do, the Board may by order in writing suspend the operation of the certificate for such period not exceeding forty-five days as may be specified in the order and require the holder of the certificate to show cause, within fifteen days f the date of receipt of such order, as to why the suspension of the certificate should not be extended till the determination of the question as to whether the registration should be canceled.
  • No order of cancellation of registration under this section shall be made unless the person concerned has been given a reasonable opportunity of being heard in respect of the grounds for such cancellation.
  • Any person aggrieved by an order made under section 13 may prefer an appeal to the Central Government within such period as may be prescribed.

In case of export/import of Spices/Spice products, Certificate of Registration as Exporter of Spices issued by the Board is also required in addition to the lE (import-export) Code number. Spices Board issues Certificate of Registration as Exporter of Spices [CRES] under Section 11 of the Spices Board Act.
